An introduction to me (Kim Whitty) and Course and Career Chat

My name’s Kim and I’m a teacher, careers practitioner and the founder of Roadmap Education. I help students thrive in VCE by putting career planning at the heart of their strategy for confidence and success at school. I believe that if students know what they want to do when they finish school, it helps give them something to work towards rather than just working really hard to keep their options open.

Why career planning is so important for feeling confident and achieving your goals at school

So many students work hard at school for the sake of working hard because there is so much urgent studying to do and assessments to study for. They feel they don’t have the time to work out what they actually want to do, so they just want to get the best results possible and use that to determine what course they apply for. I’m encouraging students and schools to flip that around so that students can implement a clear plan and know what they’re aiming for.

The story of my career from secondary school to now 

Follow my story from having no clue what I wanted to do after school, getting into my first preference at university and working out that it wasn’t right for me, pivoting into a different course by taking the time to consider what I was actually interested in and ending up in a course and career that I love. This story is why I’m so passionate about helping students make informed decisions about what they want to do when they finish school.
