What we’re talking about:

Today on the podcast I have two guests - Ella is studying Arts/Law at Monash University and Hannah is studying PPE/Law at ANU. In this episode there’s a theme around studying things you enjoy, both in VCE and beyond. Ella and Hannah give great insights into their courses, and we also discuss scholarships, moving interstate, and making difficult decisions when your first preference is just out of reach. We also talk about their amazing podcast, which is a must-listen for all VCE English and Literature students.

Enjoying VCE

Both Ella and Hannah were high achievers who loved English and Humanities subjects at school and consciously chose subjects in VCE that they enjoyed and played to their strengths. On top of that, they also continued to pursue activities that were offered at their school and take part in the social aspect of school as well. We discuss the idea of making VCE work for you instead of making it unnecessarily hard for yourself.

Making informed decisions about tertiary courses

Hannah knew early on that she wanted to study at ANU after speaking to her sister’s friends about it. She applied and received a provisional offer to study PPE/Law around the middle of Year 12, and then navigated moving interstate and applying for and receiving a scholarship to cover the cost of living at a residential college. Ella knew she wanted to study Law and, after doing a lot of research, decided she wanted to study at Monash. When her ATAR wasn’t quite high enough to get into her first preference, she made the choice to study Arts at Monash and transfer into Law rather than going straight into Law somewhere else. We talk about their courses and what they’ve been studying in their degrees so far, and what their careers might look like in the future.

Sharing their love of English and Literature

Ella and Hannah started their podcast, So Little Time: the lit-lover’s guide to VCE, during lockdown in 2020. Each episode concentrates on a VCE text, and it’s so easy to listen to because it’s two friends chatting about books, but it’s also well-researched and includes guests that provide extra tips for VCE students. Definitely a must-listen and an easy way to immerse yourself in the texts you’re studying.
