What we’re talking about:

My guest this week, Sophie, has a different pathway to a lot of the guests I’ve had on the podcast so far. After things didn’t go quite to plan after she finished Year 12, she saw an ad for a traineeship working in a primary school. She shares great information about what a traineeship is, how it all works, and how it has helped her decide where to go next in her career.

How do traineeships work?

Sophie explains how she found out about her traineeship and how she applied and got accepted. She explains how she was able to manage getting her Certificate III in Education Support while working full time at the primary school she was at, and the types of things she learnt through her qualification and the experiences she had at her workplace. Traineeships are offered in a range of different areas (see the link below for more information).

Working in Education Support

In her role at her school, Sophie provided education support in classrooms throughout the school. She outlines the type of work she’s been doing in the school and what it’s like to be an education support worker in schools. Sophie also shares how the experience she’s gained and the conversations she’s been able to have with others working in schools has led her to pursue teaching as a career.
