What we’re talking about:

My guest today is Mark, and he is about to complete a Bachelor of Science (Osteopathy)/Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) at Victoria University. Osteopathy is closely related to chiropractics and physiotherapy, and Mark clearly explains the similarities and differences between them. He gives us an insight into his course and the opportunities he had to explore what a career in osteopathy would look like. Mark also shares where he wants to take his osteopathy degree once he graduates in a few months.

Osteopathy vs Physiotherapy vs Chiropractics

These three areas of allied health have a similar focus and the work the practitioners do has some overlap, but they work from different philosophies about how the body works. Mark does a great job of explaining how they are linked and how they are different so that students can make a choice about which one aligns best with their beliefs.

Osteopathy at Victoria University

Osteopathy is only offered at a few places in Victoria, and Mark discusses some of the key features of the course at Victoria University. He particularly shares his experience of the block model, where students focus on one subject at a time instead of completing four subjects concurrently each semester. He also discusses the opportunities he had to practise his skills in osteopathy at the clinic the uni has in the city, as well as at a clinic the uni partners with in regional areas where students get to serve communities and gain a greater range of experience.
