My guest today is Declan, and he has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Exercise Science (Sports Practice) at Victoria University. In this interview, Declan shares great information about his course and the opportunities he had to explore exercise science and sport while he was studying, and also the next steps that he and his peers are taking in their careers.
Exercise Science (Sports Practice) at VU
Declan was always interested in sport, and once he accepted that he wasn’t going to be able to pursue a career as a professional sportsperson, he started to investigate other ways he could work in sport. He shares great information about what his course was like, including the facilities available at Victoria University that allows students to explore the way exercise impacts the human body in a range of different conditions. Declan also discusses the clinical practice he did throughout the course, and his involvement in the Sons of the West program which is a collaboration between VU and the Western Bulldogs.
Where Exercise Science Can Take You
Declan explains that the course he did can lead to careers in professional sports programs as well as general health and physical activity within the community. He is about start further study to become a PE teacher where he will be able to use his understanding of exercise and health with his students, and he also shares how others he studied with will pursue careers in osteopathy, physiotherapy, chiropractics, private practice, sports business/management and high performance coaching.
