This week on Course and Career Chat my guest is Oliver, and he recently graduated from a Bachelor of Criminal Justice at Victoria University and is currently studying a Master of International Relations at ANU in Canberra. In this interview, we focus on his experience of the Bachelor of Criminal Justice, including what he learned throughout the course and the areas where graduates can end up after graduation. We also discuss the ways that the course has prepared him for his current studies in International Relations, and take a look at what Oliver plans to do when he finishes his postgraduate studies.

Imposter syndrome at university

Oliver shares that he loved school when he was younger, however he was much more focused on the extracurricular activities available than on the academic side of things. Despite this, he’s now studied at several universities and is currently doing a postgraduate degree. We discuss how he has achieved this and why it’s a great example for students who aren’t overly academically minded.

Bachelor of Criminal Justice

After realising that teaching wasn’t for him, Oliver tried a few different courses before starting a Bachelor of Criminology and Justice in Perth. He transferred to the Bachelor of Criminal Justice at VU, and he gives us a great insight into what the course was like, what he studied, how it changed his perspective about people and society, and where graduates of the course can end up working.

Master of International Relations

After completing his degree, Oliver decided to continue studying and is currently completing a Master of International Relations at ANU. He shares how his understanding of criminology and criminal justice has supported his learning so far, and how he hopes to use both in his future career as a diplomat.
