Today I’m chatting to Mia, a Commerce graduate who is currently completing a Master of Teaching, about balance at school and uni, using your experiences to help you work out what career you might like to pursue, and so much more.

What we’re talking about:

Balancing study and activities in VCE

Mia did a lot of activities in VCE including aerobic gymnastics at the national level, so she knows a thing or two about balancing school work and outside interests. Both of us agree that continuing doing the things you love can help keep some perspective when there’s a lot going on at school.

Making the most of your opportunities at uni

Mia discusses the fact that late in her Commerce degree, she realised that she hadn’t embraced the experiences at uni the same way as she had during high school, and that this negatively affected how she felt about the course and how she performed in her subjects.

Working out what you actually want to do

After Mia recognised that she didn’t want to pursue a career in Commerce, she realised that when she reflected on the things she was already doing in her life, it was obvious that teaching was something that she would enjoy. It’s a great reminder that working out what you want to do is often more simple than we make it.
