What we’re talking about:

Maddy's here today to talk about her course, the Bachelor of Design (Communication Design), how she used her subjects in VCE to make great choices about what course to study, and what her future career might look like.

Choosing practical subjects in VCE

Maddy had already thought about what she wanted to do when she finished school before she chose her VCE subjects, so she was able to choose subjects that were related to the career paths she was looking at at the time, allowing her to investigate them further.

Doing your own career research to find out what opportunities are available

Maddy showed a lot of initiative when it came to researching courses, and she found that doing this meant she was much more aware of some of the more unique courses available instead of only looking at the more common courses.

Overcoming procrastination, particularly for folio subjects

Folio subjects can be difficult for students because they can have peak workloads and also require you to show your creative side which can be daunting for some students. Maddy explains how in Year 11 she was reluctant to do her work at school because she wanted to hide her work, but then when she made the decision to stop doing this in Year 12 and put herself out there, she found it so much easier to keep up and do her work.

Design

Maddy explains how her course, the Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) at RMIT, works in terms of what you learn, the opportunities available within the course, and what a career in Design could look like.
